How to use it

The first step is to remove the spring pressure by unhooking the visible end of the spring.

Next step is to separate the old broken hinge clip from the lower portion. The flattened end of the existing hinge pin needs to be removed. Options to do that include; file it, grind it, cutting wheel or metal saw (we use a Dremel tool with cut-off wheel). Once the end of the existing hinge pin is removed – tap the pin out using a narrow punch and a small hammer being careful that you don’t lose the spring as it comes apart. You will reuse the spring during reassembly.

Then, insert the spring into the spring cavity in proper orientation with the lower portion spring hook. Bring the hinge clip and the lower portion together, aligning them in preparation of inserting the new hinge pin. Carefully insert the new hinge pin keeping the clip and lower portion in alignment. Gently tap the hinge pin (it will be snug – just keeping tapping gently) in until you see equal amounts of the pin showing on both ends. The hinge pin is held in place by the close tolerances and the spring tension.

Re-hook the spring end under the lower portion spring hook – that’s it! You’re done!
